A fixed-speed compressor either runs flat out or switches off — there’s no in-between. A variable speed drive (VSD) unit throttles its motor up and down to match actual demand, which is where most of the energy saving comes from on sites where air use rises and falls through the day.
The upfront cost is higher than a comparable fixed-speed machine, so VSD tends to make the most financial sense on sites with genuinely variable demand rather than a steady, constant load. We can run the numbers against your actual usage pattern before you decide either way.
