Wet compressed air causes two separate problems: corrosion inside pipework and fittings, and outright freezing in outdoor lines during winter. In food, pharma or coating applications there’s a third issue — moisture in the air stream can contaminate the product itself.
Refrigerated dryers cover most general workshop and industrial needs at a reasonable running cost. Desiccant dryers push the dew point lower still, which is worth the extra cost where outdoor pipework or a moisture-sensitive process demands it — otherwise it’s spending more than you need to.
