Extraction fans move the air itself — pulling contaminated air out of a building and, usually, drawing replacement air in through a separate route. They’re the workhorse component behind most fume and dust extraction systems, sitting between the capture point (an arm, hood or enclosure) and the outside.
Fan selection comes down to airflow rate and static pressure: a fan rated for a short, wide duct run won’t necessarily cope once it’s connected to a long run with several bends, so ductwork layout has to be factored in before you buy, not after.
