Robur GAHP Plus Gas Absorption Heat Pumps

The Robur GAHP Plus range is the latest generation of gas absorption heat pumps, delivering hot water for space heating and domestic hot water with efficiency well beyond that of a condensing boiler. They burn natural gas or LPG to drive an absorption cycle that also draws renewable energy from the air, ground or water, using R717 natural refrigerant with zero global warming and ozone depletion potential, so they are not subject to F-Gas regulations. The range covers four models. The air source GAHP A Plus delivers 44.6 kW at A7W35 with a GUE of 172%, equivalent to a COP of 4.30 with a 2.5 energy conversion factor, and Robur states it saves up to 40% on heating costs compared with the best condensing boilers. At -7 °C it still achieves 159% efficiency, so no back-up heating elements are needed. The reversible GAHP AR Plus provides 38.8 kW of heating and 16.9 kW of cooling. The ground source GAHP GS Plus delivers 43.0 kW at B0W35 (GUE 165%), and the water source GAHP WS Plus 45.3 kW at W10W35 (GUE 174%, 248% overall when producing hot and cold water together). Hot water reaches 65 °C for heating and 70 °C for domestic hot water (60 / 65 °C on the AR Plus), and the air source models work down to -15 °C, or -30 °C as an option. Each unit has a condensing burner and modulating brushless fan, uses 25.2 to 26.0 kW of gas input, and can be controlled centrally by Robur’s DDC and monitored remotely through In-Cloud Watcher. Low-noise S1 versions of the A Plus and AR Plus cut sound pressure at 5 m to 52.0 dB(A). Integrating a GAHP Plus with existing lower-efficiency boilers raises the efficiency of the whole system and improves the energy performance of the building.
